Welcome to the Shot Of Jaq Website
Friends and compadres, welcome to shotofjaq.org – the brand new podcast featuring myself, Jono Bacon and Stuart ‘Aq’ Langridge, also formally of LugRadio. For those of you who are new to Shot Of Jaq, you can go and read more about the show here.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking, where is the first episode? Well, it is going t be delayed for a few weeks, and I wanted to explain why.
Originally we planned the very first Shot Of Jaq episode to be released today, 3rd November 2009, but we have had to delay it due to some extended travel requirements on both Aq and I. When we originally announced the release date, we had timeslots available to record our opening few shows, but those timeslots have since had to be re-arranged due to last-minute travel to some work-related events. We could have put together some shows, but the audio quality would have been inferior and we were conscious to not kick off Shot Of Jaq with a lower-than-normal quality. As such, we decided to delay the release date to provide enough time for us to record the shows in a manner the means we can guarantee normal quality that you should expect from Shot Of Jaq.
The first episode will now be released on Tues 24th Nov 2009.
Aq and I are both sorry that those of you who are excited about the show will need to wait a little longer, but we assure you that the wait will be worth it. In the meantime, the new brand new Shot Of Jaq website is open, and I encourage you all to introduce yourself in the comments on this entry so the new Shot Of Jaq community can start to get to know each other. We also encourage you to let us know how we can improve the website: this is going to be home for a world of discussion and debate, and we want to make it as comfortable as possible.

Looking forward to it, hope it’s worth it.
Thanks, Tony! I hope so too.
Delighted that the website is now up and running. Looking forward to the 24th Nov 09. Now to introduce myself: I am a linux hobbyist living in Ireland using linux (Ubuntu) as my main OS in the home. I am NOT a technical person but I am looking forward to listening to SOJ and hopefully commenting on the bits I understand.
Now I will finally have that little empty space in my soul filled once again. Just think, in a few weeks I won’t have to worry about rationing the few remaining episodes I have of LugRadio!
Glad to see great mobile support for the website. Looking forward to the episodes..
Delighted that we will all be able to hear the voices of two great and argumentative (in a friendly manner of course) fellows!
I work at a High School in the West Midlands (UK) and use as many open source solutions as possible. I have used Ubuntu as my main OS since Breezy, and have experience with Debian on servers, and also Fedora on work stations.
I look forward to listening and contributing!
shotoffail …
looking forward to it at any rate, something interesting again to listen to on the way to/from work!
Hope there is a boycott novell special, purely for the entertainment value
James Tait; geek, husband, dad of two. Been using Linux for 12 years now, starting with Slackware, progressing through Debian before settling on Ubuntu, with some Red Hat, Fedora and SuSE thrown in along the way.
As time’s progressed I’ve participated more and ventured outside of Free software to Free Culture generally – most notably distributing and posting flyers and spreading awareness of Severed Fifth as part of the Street Team.
Never listened to LUGRadio (or any podcasts, so don’t feel offended) much prior to LUGRadio Live 2008, but really looking forward to the new venture.
For those who don’t know me, I’m Russ, and I’m one half of the Official LugRadio Married Couple. Or I was, I don’t know if we get to keep that title
I have a question – is there a feed anywhere that I can add to bashpodder so that I get the first episode once it’s released? Or do I have to remember to come back in three weeks?
Our podcast feed is not up yet afaik, should be up soon though. We will post a news story when it is ready.

This project has made no releases.
I’m Mark, web developer, geek, metalhead, etc. User of Kubuntu and general KDE fan, dispite the torrent of hate it seems to get from some areas of the community – it’s definitely awesome.
I enjoy engaging with open source communities whenever possible – without them, my job would be considerably harder. I also talk about my community involvements whenever possible, in order to help people understand how to do get involved themselves.
Hoping that Shot of Jaq will fill the ample hole in my life left by the lack of Jono and Aq arguing since the end of LugRadio, and prompt some interesting discussions to get my teeth into. Looking forward to it guys!
Woooooo! Finally!
Good luck guys, looking forward to it.
Good luck guys.
Great to hear, I certainly missed LR – just one question though: What did you guys do to sweet Adam?
Looking forward to Nov-24 then …
Hah! We did nothing to him. He turned up predictably late, mind.
Since you are guaranteeing normal audio quality, can we expect any conference specials to be rotten recordings?
Looking forward to the 24th – good luck with it guys.
Wot no OpenID sign in?
Hi

Hoping “Shot of Jaq” going to heal the hole that LUGradio’s passing made in our listening schedule! If not watch yourself at whatever community event get’s organised next year in place of LRL, we know what you look like
Well done lads all the best. I’ll get the feed from my freedom hating itunes and listen on my freedom hating ipod.
Talking about filling an empty space, I like how the smileys are encased in a black square instead of having a transparent background (or is it because they have a blackground?)
Congratulations on starting you podcasting careers again. I can’t believe it, but I’ve really missed your guy’s discussions.
[...] touched by all the words of encouragement at http://shotofjaq.org/2009/11/welcome-to-the-shot-of-jaq-website/ [...]
Looking forward to the show.
Excellent news! Looking forward to it, and good luck!! Corrie
Sounds like its going to be just the right mix. Looking forward to it. Can I just put in a request now that the first “Shot of JAQ Live” event take place in Surfers Paradise Australia. Ill even organise a few mates to come, and case of Fosters for you (though we really dont drink that here, we just export it and pretend aussies drink it)
Hi, Amazing! Not clear for me, how offen you updating your soj.jonoanderica.com. Thanks Edwas
I’m Bas from NL, sysadmin/programmer/scientist. LugRadio made me realise there is a big community behind Linux, with great people in it. Insprired me as well. Hoping for some random bits of comedy in Shot of Jaq, not just serious Geek talk.
Good luck, looking forward to the 24th!
Are we still on for tommorow and will there be a itunes / rss link. Btw Cant wait to download the first episode
Waiting and hoping, can i has show plz
thanks guys! I like the short highly dense format.
I think one element that might be missing is the follow up and interactivity element. Maybe there could be “JAQ Chaser” shows, where listeners have moved the debate on and the discussion has evolved or provoked a lot of resposnse, topics could be revisited in a later shot?
New comer, but excited! FLOSS weekly listener on a regular basis. Haven’t listened to any episodes yet, but am going to now.
