The format of the show is great – I love the way that I can listen while I eat my sandwiches at my desk, then dash out a reply (like this) and still have time to wander round the block to get a breath of fresh-air

That’s awesome to hear – this is exactly what we were shooting for. :-)

mp3 in the feed please! phone doesn’t do ogg :(

    • sil 9 December 2009 at 1:12 pm #

I know, I know. Wordpress is being intransigent again. Work is going on to make this better.

      • hds 9 December 2009 at 1:37 pm #

        Thanks :)

      • sil 9 December 2009 at 2:07 pm #

OK, the feed has both mp3 and ogg enclosures. Does your phone not show that up properly?

        • hds 9 December 2009 at 4:24 pm #

Is working fine now, thanks. Only shows the mp3 as available, that maybe because its filtering out the ogg as incompatible.

Ready to listen to on the drive home from work..

“My give-a-shit is broken” – comedy gold. Can’t believe you couldn’t find good music on Jamendo – managed OK for Classic Yak… ;)

Ah, great. Jaqbacks are definitely a good idea.

WTF? where Friends Reunited is concerned my Give-A-Shit never left production. When I looked at it maaaany years ago I just saw a list of names that I recognised, but only because I recognised them as being the sort of people who I was happy to lose touch with!

    • gmb 9 December 2009 at 4:30 pm #

      What he said.

One of the big ways in which Facebewk scores over Friends Reunited is that it’s less of a horror show: I don’t have to look at the names of people that I dislike, or, in most cases, have absolutely no cause to remember.

For a second time I’ve had the sound cut out before the end using the built in flash player widget thingo. It happened at about 8:45 ish. The seconds kept going up, but the sound stopped entirely.

I’m using the 64 bit version of the Adobe flash player in Chrome on Ubuntu Karmic.

    Anyone else had this issue?

  8. Yos 9 December 2009 at 5:08 pm #

You’re thanking me when I should be thanking you? These shots are awesome guys…keep up the great work! Thank you for the mention and I give my meek,”you’re welcome,” to you’re thank you :D

About the comment on the sound of the playback cutting out, I am having a similar problem. For me, the sound cut out twice. I use VLC to listen to these “shotcasts”.

Thanks Yos! Of course we thank you – Shot Of Jaq is nothing without awesome community members such as yourself getting involved!

I love FLOSS Weekly. I get very excited every time gPodder announces a new episode. It’s so informative and fun.

And this show tops it, imho.

The reason this show tops it is the short length. You have thus far done your job perfectly: you say just enough to start a conversation and you make it very easy for me to join in immediately afterward.

Thank you, and keep up the good work.

    • jono 9 December 2009 at 8:05 pm #

      Thanks so much, Spencer!

  12. mattmole 9 December 2009 at 8:42 pm #

I like the idea of the jaqback. With the new shortened format (which I am beginning to like) BTW.

The jaqback is like the end of LUG Radio episodes (sorry to keep drawing comparisons).

Keep up the good work! Do you think you will ever do episodes where an expert in “the field” will also be part of the podcast?

I think it is an interesting concept, maybe one that would spoil the flow though as you guys have such a rapport!

I 2nd that, doing an interview that short would be interesting…

      • Derek 10 December 2009 at 6:51 am #

I agree, lightning interviews might be something to experiment with.

I think I agree with everyone else – the format is fine and it has a point to it. The music is fine, and, in fact, I used to find the LUGRadio music a little grating – it was just a bit harsh as a between-segments snippet. The drum beats are a little easier on the ear. :o )

More than anything, I appreciate the honesty of Jono and Aq. They acknowledge when they’re not sure or don’t know something but attempt to make sure that what they say is still relevant, even if it’s not fully informed; I contrast this a little with a FLOSS interview a few weeks ago when one of the interviewers basically said they’d tuned out while the interviewees were discussing biology for 10 minutes [in the context of bioperl]. It wasn’t meant to be an insult, and I don’t think it was taken as such by the interviewees, but I thought he could not have worried about saying it (it didn’t add anything to the interview, except making the disconnect between the expert and the non-expert clear). I have no doubt that you guys wouldn’t have tuned out and would have tried to keep track and learn from it. Just saying. :o )

        Keep up the great work.

Since Twitter and friends are called “microblogging,” because tweets are supposedly really short blog posts, why not call this format “microcasting?”

  14. kone4040 9 December 2009 at 11:37 pm #

Great work … I’m starting to like the format more and more. The idea of jaqbacks is nice. I’m also a big fan of the intro.

Looking forward to the next shots

On reflection, “affably hip” does indeed imply 24/7 flip flop wearing. I can imagine that with all that Wolverhampton blood corsing through him, he’ll still be wearing socks with his flip-flops for some years to come. Maybe that might stick? Jono “Socks & Jesus Boots” Bacon?

    • jono 10 December 2009 at 4:23 pm #

      lol, not quite! :-)

Flip flops, yes, sunglasses, yes, socks, no. :-)

    Aq, Jono,

Nice idea the new mic for Aq, nice time of the year to get one too.

Strange how sounds works, through my headset I’ve got the impression that Aq was sitting 2m above and on the right of Jono. Made his words sound more important.

    Anyhow, a pleasure as usual

    • MEz 10 December 2009 at 4:35 pm #

Above and to the right? Made him sound like he was on the loo to me ;)

A couple of bits of comedy gold in this shot, Aq’s give a shit being broken (you should really see a doctor about that!) and the Flip Flops… :D

The Music is annoying, in my opinion… Annoyingly catchy. It gives an air of “importance” and “professionalism” to the shot though (almost as if it’s an upbeat news program)

Keep up the good work guys – this is the one ‘cast I can listen to without my attention wandering part way through and then having to rewind to catch up on what I missed :D
